Every year on the second Friday of October, World Egg Day is celebrated all over the world to emphasize the brilliant versatility of the egg and its benefits to people at every stage of their life. To mark the 25th anniversary of the World Egg Day, JSC Balticovo organized different activities for residents and guests of Riga and Iecava to celebrate the festival on an unprecedented scale.
The successful operations of AS “Balticovo” (a joint-stock company) in 2020 resulted in several completed large-scale development projects. This included the installation of a new water treatment plant as well as the opening of the biggest enclosure complex for non-caged laying hens in the Baltic states. The latter enabled the company to increase its turnover to 54,31 million euros – up from 50,91 million euros in 2019. The company plans to invest profits of 3,03 million euros in future development projects to implement its strategic objective of full transition to cage-free egg production within the next few years.
By laying the capsule in the foundations of the building, the Latvian producer of eggs and egg products JSC Balticovo begins the construction of a new production complex, where the planned egg sorting centre and egg boiling line will significantly increase the production capacity of the company. The project investments will reach 13 million euros and the total area of the complex is planned to be 8500 square metres large.
Over the last three years, AS Balticovo, the producer of egg products and eggs, has invested more than 26 million euros in its own development and the development of its industry. In accordance with Balticovo’s plans for the future, the company shareholders decided to spend its 2019 profits on continuing its rapid growth.
By continuing its investments in ever new technologies and development, “Balticovo” commissions for use, biological wastewater treatment plants. They are the first industrial wastewater treatment plants in Latvia that use such modern technologies – wastewater from the production and processing of eggs and egg products after treatment is released into nature cleaner than the water in lakes and rivers.
On 12 June, the publication of the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility’s annual Sustainability Index revealed that Balticovo had won the silver award. This represents a measure of progress, because last year, the company received the bronze award.

As an important step in development and considering consumer demand, AS "Balticovo" is opening the first large-scale free-range chicken holding in Latvia. The free range holding in Madona houses 20,000 birds having access to 8 hectares of walking area, thus each bird has 4 square meters of space. This is the first large scale free range holding in Latvia.
An immuring ceremony of a capsule in the foundation of AS Balticovo’s new project – a barn for the hens kept outside cages – took place on 19th of March. Total investment of the project amounts to EUR 8 million, and the first two barns together, will ensure 260,000 new bird places.
