More information on the joint project of the Competence Centre is available here.
Goal of the project: to increase the production efficiency of the birds and egg quality, thus increasing company turnover and export volumes. In cooperation with ICT companies, JSC “Balticovo” will develop a production productivity forecasting solution in accordance with the requirements and standards adopted in the poultry and egg production industry, as well as will promote the use of computer vision in the recording of egg production and quality monitoring.
Cooperation partner SIA “Apply” was announced in the procurement process. “APPLY Intelligent Technologies” is a programming company with extensive experience in developing artificial intelligence and computer vision solutions, especially for manufacturing companies.
The expected result:
within the project a bird keeping cycle module will be developed, as well as egg counting module, quality analysis module for egg yolks and whites, which will be added to the existing data system, that was developed within the previous project, thus providing uniform data sets.
The method and experimental technological solutions developed as a result of the project will be reusable and applicable to other poultry and egg production companies. A recording system for the maintenance of poultry flocks and egg production will be set up and tested with the manufacturer’s data, as well as an experimental technological chain for collecting and processing of the required data.
The planned project implementation deadline: from 01.06.2019 to 01.06.2020.
The project status on 11.07.2019: after the first month of project implementation, the project cooperation partners were identified and now active work on the joint project implementation plan is taking place. In the first month, the employees of JSC “Balticovo” actively worked on the analysis module of egg yolks and whites and the first prototype drawings of computer vision modules have already been developed, as well as all the necessary digital infrastructure has been created, so that the first prototypes can be installed in the next month. Further information on the progress of the project will be available in August 2019.
The project status on 01.08.2019: in the first two months active work in the field of data acquisition took place, egg standards, weight, types of yolks and whites were analysed. The main standards of poultry farming and other physiological characteristics of birds were analysed. The possible variants and location of computer vision module prototypes have been studied. Analysis of raw materials, determination of microbiological parameters, analysis of compliance with egg standards and quality monitoring has been implemented (of eggs and egg mass).
The project status on 01.11.2019: the industrial research phase of the project has been completed. Together with the industry researchers the quality standards and types of eggs in the egg industry have been studied. The existing data system has been supplemented with the bird keeping cycle module.
The data required to test the egg counting module and to make predictions have been acquired. Verification of the developed egg counting and analysis solution in an aggressive environment (at stalls and workshop) has been provided. Computer vision equipment (eight cameras) and a data processing unit have been installed. The data required to test the egg mass and yolk analysis module and to make predictions have been acquired. Verification of the developed solution of the analysis module for egg yolks and whites in an aggressive environment (workshop) has been provided. Computer vision equipment (two cameras) and a data processing unit have been installed. For the egg quality module, quality data of sorted eggs have been obtained from the egg analysis, weighing and packing unit.
The project status on 01.02.2020: egg counting module has been created within the project, analysis module for egg yolks and whites and egg quality module. Scientific materials have been developed within the project.
* Bird keeping cycle module. The existing data system has been supplemented with the bird keeping cycle module, as well as their connection with production data has been provided. Data has been imported into the technological environment to provide the possibility to process, visualise and link the data with the already available characteristics. Based on the data obtained in the production process, a data visualisation solution has been developed.
* Egg counting module. Egg counting and analysis system has been developed to provide the records of each bird stall. Computer vision equipment has been installed (five cameras). The data required to test the egg counting and analysis module and to make predictions have been acquired. The data of egg counting and analysis obtained during the production process have been imported into the technological environment to provide the possibility to process, visualise and link the data with the already available characteristics.
* Egg mass and yolk analysis module. A computer vision solution has been developed that allows one to obtain accurate data on the quality of egg whites and yolks in a torn mass. Analysis system of egg yolks and whites has been developed. Computer vision equipment has been installed (two cameras). The data necessary for testing and forecasting the analysis module of egg yolks and whites have been obtained. The analysis data of egg yolks and whites obtained during the production process have been imported into the technological environment to provide the possibility to process, visualise and link the data with the already available characteristics.
* Egg quality module. Data of sorted eggs have been obtained from the egg analysis, weighing and packing unit. The egg quality indications obtained during the production process have been imported into the technological environment to provide the possibility to process, visualise and link the data with the already available characteristics.
